With the works是什麼？難道還有「附工作內容」的漢堡？直到漢堡上桌後，Mike看到牛肉排、起司、生菜、番茄、洋蔥、培根、醬料⋯⋯漢堡裡什麼都有，才理解到with the works意思是「全套的／該有的配料全部加上」。

Ｗorks這個字也經常出現在以下情境：

1.the works／the whole works

意思是「整套內容」：

  • They showed us the works.（他們把整套內容都拿給我們看。）
  • They gave us the whole works.（他們把整套都給了。）→更強調全部、從頭到尾。

2.works fine / works great

並非稱讚人「工作做得很好」，而是用來表示「可以正常運作、沒有問題」。

  • This setup works fine.（這個設定沒問題。）
  • That solution works great.（那個解法很可以。）

3.in the works

意思是「在進行中」：

  • It’s in the works.（正在處理中。）
